Patriot Notables: After experiencing some success in non-district, its been a tough road in 17-4A.  The offense is still getting adjusted to the speed of Varsity defenses, as they have yet to muster more than 10 points in an October contest.  QB Jonathan Jones ('14) and RB Cornelio Garcia ('15) have been good in spots.  Along with WR Adrian Contreras ('15) and WR Chandler Crawford ('14), the future is bright.  We expect the Pats to score some points on Thursday.

Eagle Notables: This is the first senior class for Cedar Creek, despite being a first-year Varsity program.  There has been progress on the field and in the stands over 2012, as the Eagles get used to district play.  RB Vincent Fitzpatrick ('14) has fought through nicks/bruises to star for coach Hernandez.  QB Jose Vazquez ('14) has respect district-wise as a dual threat.  Most of his damage has come via the rush, but TE Devin Tuggle ('14) makes defenses stay honest.

Bowie Notables: On a two game win streak, Coach Jeff Ables is feeling good about the Bulldogs.  Bowie is averaging 37 points per game and allowing just 10.5 over this stretch.  QB Austin Eschenberg ('14) has come a long way since non-district, totaling 14 TDs with just two interceptions.  DL Elijah Thompson ('13) leads the team in sacks, while ATH Dontae Harris ('13) is back at his natural position of safety.  The Bulldogs hold the tie breaker over Austin (35-21 win), and can get the inside track with a win over Anderson on Thursday.

Thursday Preview: LBJ v. McCallum (Week 8)
McCallum KnightsMcCallum Knights (3-0) vs. Del Valle CardinalsLBJ Jaguars (3-0)

McCallum KnightsMcCallum Notes: Its been a roller coaster season for McCallum, but they're currently in an upswing. Outside of a mid-season non-dsitrict tender vs. Navasota, the Knights have won their last three.  QB Griffin Stuesser is showing senior leadership by leading the team in total TDs (9).  The emergence of RB AJ Herrera has ignited the Knights fan base.  Since inserted in the starting line up, Herrera has run for nearly 500 yards in 3 contest.  His 3 TD game v. Travis last week shows that he can dominate a game.  The addition of super sophomore Sabian Cannon back to the mix makes this a deadly McCallum squad.  WR Willie Mays ('14) has 340 yards and 2 receiving TDs...good numbers, but he's capable of much more.  Junior WR Jordan Gray will be celebrating a belated birthady.  The team has softened the loss of senior Ed Armstrong with line play from Rashad Jarmon and Courtney Organ.  The return of Wil Smith is just another improvement the team has made since Week Zero.

OL Billy Won ('13)
ATH Dewayne Bryant ('14)
ATH Rashed Jarmon ('13)

LBJ Notes: The Jaguars have certainly been playing better lately, but they'll tell you the 'swag' isn't all the way back.  A win against McCallum on Thursday would transform them back into the Swaguars.  ATH Randon Knotts ('13) has double digit TDs, and will certainly add on to his total headed into postsesaon.  WR Sebastian Canizares ('13) has been the team's most consistent receiving threat (285 yards, 2 TDs) while RB Demarcus Bryant (340 yards, 4 TDs) has helped Knotts steady the run game.  DB Jeffery Willams ('13) doesn't have flashy numbers, but its because offenses are scared to throw his way.  Its not on the stat sheet, but he's done his job.  Not to be forgotten is ATH Aiden Kahn.  A versitile talent, he's chipped in at QB (3 TDs) and WR (1 TD).  LBs Gary Lovings ('14) and Jaylon Rose ('14) offer good run support, while the offensive line (featuring Denzel Locue/Bernard Tucker) can play like the district's best.

OVERVIEW:

Different year, different battle.  Both teams are peaking, and the talk is loud on Twitter.  We'll be on hand Thursday night for the action - you'll see postgame interviews and game action on our Facebook page late Thursday/early Friday.

Thursday Preview: Austin v. Anderson
Austin High MaroonsAustin Maroons (1-2) v. Anderson TrojansAnderson Trojans (0-3)

Austin High MaroonsAustin High Notes: Austin High's offense notched its second 40+ point scoring effort in four games (v. Akins).  Their 47 points last week was their highest output vs. a district foe.  The defense performed well, allowing a season low 14 points.  Senior ATH Zay Jones (pictured) has totaled 500 yards and 6 TDs.  St. Mike's transfer Quin Goode ('14) leads team in rushing TDs with 6, while junior RB Quincy Reese has 4 scores.  Sophomore QB John Albert Mansour has thrown for over 700 yards and 9 TDs.  Senior FB/TE Charles Schneider has 24 grabs for for 240 yards and 2 TDs.  The Maroons key issue has been consistency.  If they can play defense like they did vs. Lake Travis (14 points allowed) and offense like last week, they will surprise fans down the road.  A win over Anderson inches Coach Rosenthal to a postseason berth in his debut season.

Anderson TrojansAnderson Notes: This season has been a frustrating one for a talented group of hard workers.  Despite the dismal start, the Trojans still have a glimmer of postseason hope.  RB Deryl Bunton has been the MVP, totaling 500 yards and 3 TDs.  QB Easton Johnson has kept turnover to a minimum (2 interceptions) while providing the teams only passing TD (27 yarder to Chris Collins).  Junior WR Blake Allen has been their #1 receiving threat with 23 grabs.  Sophomores Chris Ortiz and Braden Buckman have provided a glimpse of a brighter future.  Linemen Raj Rajab and Jacob Valadez are receiving solid playing time that will serve them well in 2013.  But before Anderson starts looking into the future, they can prolong the '12 season with a win over Austin High on Thursday.

Thursday Preview: Battle for the Bell (Week 7)
McCallum Knights McCallum Knights (2-0) VS Travis Rebels Football Travis Rebels (2-0)

Jon Caldwell is a different player in 2012. Scary thought that he'll return for 2013.

Travis Notables: QB Jon Caldwell ('14) is a different player this season.  With 19 total TDs and three more regular season games to go, he's on record setting pace.  The continued success of senior RB Chris Clark and the emergence of WR Johnny Williams ('14) has the Rebels offense running.  The defense is the unsung hero.  LB Juan Garza ('14) is averaging 10 tackles a game (2 interceptions), while senior LB Ricardo Varela is notching 9 per contest.

McCallum Notables: QB Griffin Stuesser ('13) is finally hitting his stride.  After dealing with personel changes, Stuesser is focused with 9 of his total 12 TDs scored in the past three contest.  Its great to see senior RB A.J. Herrera get his chance to play, as he's notched back-to-back 100+ rushing yard efforts.  The defense is led by two juniors - DB Will Bellomy (6 tackles per game) and Khalil Grant (6 tackles per game).  The loss of DE Edward Armstrong for the season has made the Knights defense have to re-configure the defensive side of the ball.

Del Valle Cardinals LBJ Jaguars (2-0)  VS. Crockett Cougars Crockett Cougars (0-2)

RK10 is the real deal

LBJ Notable: The Jaguars are rediscovering their 'swag', averaging nearly 25 points per game.  Moving ATH Randon Knotts behind center consistently puts the ball in their best playmaker's hands.  The defense has also turn it on of late - allowing less than 10 points per game.
