'13 Returning All-District 16-5A

When asked on Twitter, 'which is the best 5A district in the Austin-area', the replies weighed astoundingly on 16-5A's side.  Despite 15-5A producing a State semifinalist, the public seems sold on Cen-Tex North being the strongest.  The Pflguerville/Round Rock area has watched the evolution of 25-4A, and looks to take a leap forward themselves.  The following returning players were all honored in 2012 as all-district performers by the coaches.

Hendrickson Hawks Football HENDRICKSON HAWKS

RB – Samaje Perine (’14)
WR – Latrell Martin (’14)
DL – Coby Fontenette (’14)
LB – Nikko Delacruz (’15)
DB – Chance Waz (’14)
DB – Trai Mosley (’14)

HAWKS QUICKY: The reigning 16-5A champs bring back the reigning district MVP.  Perine is destined to play on Sundays.  We hope Hendrickson fans get a good glimpse before he trots off for college.  Martin was impressive in a run-first offense.  With flashes of big play ability, he could easily approach 800+ yards receiving.  The defense was the most pleasant surprise of their 6-0 district run.  Delacruz filled in for Trey Gutierrez at times last year – and flourished.  He returns as one of the area’s top run/pass defending LBs.  Waz/Mosley form the district’s most dynamic (and confident) defensive backfield.  We’re expecting a consecutive year of triple digit tackles for Chance, and for Trai to challenge for the district’s interception title (currently belonging to RR’s Meunnink)

RB – Clarence Guidry (’14)
WR – Caleb Horton (’14)

PANTHERS QUICKY: Just two players return in ’13 as all-district honorees.  However, these two players could be the ones leading P’ville into the playoffs.  With Dilworth gone, we foresee over 1k rush yards for the talented Guidry.  He remained in 16-5A’s top 10 rush list the entire season.  Horton was arguably the 3rd best receiver in Cen-Tex North last year (behind Ty Marshall, Ray Racine).  The two-sport star will need to be Mr. Do-It-All for newbie Zach Milner.

WR – Travis Dale (’14)
OL – Brendan Moore (’14)
DL – Lucas Dielmann (’14)
DL – Brandon Brown (’14)
DB – Michael McCaughey (’14)

WARRIORS QUICKY: Fans believe Dale could be be next year’s ‘Ty Marshall’.  As his confidence grows, the sky is the limit for #6.  Moore returns as a security blanket for QB Fenimore – carrying valuable experience from his 2012 playing time.  Dielmann/Brown are aggressive trench players that will need to fill the production of graduating Hanusa/Roach.  We’re already hearing rumors that McCaughey will move down to LB in 2013.  Regardless of where he is on the field, he’ll be relied on as an anchor.  Talented youngsters like Bartek/Hoerferkamp return as well, but these 5 Warriors were honored by the coaches in 2012.

RB – Deandre Story (’14)
WR – Keyon Dilosa (’14)
OL – Robert Castaneda (’14)
DL – Breylin Davis (’15)
DB – Andrew Muennink (’14)
DRAGONS QUICKY: We fully expect Story to soar over 1K rush yards in 2012 – especially with on/off field buddy Robert Castaneda up front (and unlisted Isaiah Edwards).  Muennink led 16-5A in interceptions last year, and should continue his rise to stardom next Fall.  Dilosa has all the talent in the world, and should benefit from the seasoning he received last year.  He is capable of much more than he showed in '12.  We rank Davis as a top 4 lineman, citywide.  The tenacity he showed as a sophomore will morph into greater things over the next two season.  #6 will be special.  This team will benefit simply from having better health in '13.  Other youngsters will also chip in, but this core returns as recognized all-district players.

WR – Justin Gamble (’15)
OL – Eric Newman (’14)
DL – Michael Ezimako (’14)
DL – Stacy Anderson (’14)
TIGERS QUICKY: Gamble has been showing since Summer ’12 that he is a big time playmaker.  His hardwork carried over into the season, and will do so over the next two years.  The most recognized talent returns up front (Ezimako/Anderson), as the Tigers should maintain their defensive reputation.   Newman will have a slew of skill players that he’ll need to make room for (Lindley/Barrera/Marrero/Tonkins).  Notable missing from this list are players like Jordan, Damian and Aidan - but they'll be sure to make coaches/fans remember them by this time next season.

Eastside Memorial Panthers CEDAR RIDGE RAIDERS

QB – Michael McCann (’14)
WR – Charles Porter (’14)
OL – Kyle Truax (’14)
OL – Matthew Cooper (’14)

RAIDER QUICKY: Returning the district’s first team QB gives the Raiders a head start on 16-5A.  The chemistry McCann built with Porter and the offensive line (Truax, Cooper, Scales) will pay off big in 2013.  We feel this team is capable of what Rouse did in 2012 – from missing the playoffs, to making a run at State.  The young talent list is long for CR (Morello, Racine, Malesky, Ockletree), but only this Raider-quartet received all-district recognition in 2012.

RB – Donnie Holmes (’14)
OL – Solomon Perdue (’14)
DL – Tillman Johnson (’14)

MAVS QUICKY: Holmes was one of the biggest breakout stories of 2012  From turning heads in Spring ’12 camp, to rushing over 1K in the Fall – he has proven to be a top flight back.  OL Perdue losses the comfort of Loitz/Pepper, but is man enough to hold his own.  The line will be young next year, so Coach Penland needs Solomon to bring his best game each week.  Same for Tillman Johnson, who is a handful for any opposing OL.   Players such as Colton Russell/Zach Vaughan/Deandre Connor didn’t make all district, but return with the above mentioned trio to form an improved Mavericks team.
