The new year in Austin-area Varsity scholastics begins its district slate tonight. Lake Travis, Austin High, Westlake, Cedar Creek and others take the floor tonight in competition.
The prolonged football season was a welcomed treat for Central Texas fans. With both Cedar Park and Georgetown making the State championship game, the spotlight is on the Austin-area.
'Its great to have some players cross over from football to basketball', Cedar Park head coach Blake Brown says. "There are extra people in the stands who come out to see some of the players faces".
Westlake quarterback Jordan Severt plays post for the Chaps. "I love football, but there's something about being on the court", says the all-district junior.
Bowie basketball stadium will be rawkus, with its close stands/court settings. "There's nothing quite like Austin High vs. Bowie. And its a lot more fun at their place", says Austin High student Jason Felts.
The top four teams in each district will move onto postseason play - which begins in late Februrary.
