Fanstand: 17-4A Returning All District

17-4A was Texas high school football's biggest surpise last season.  With 3 teams making the quarterfinals and further (Manor made the semis, Georgetown made the finals), the entire State is on notice.  Who returns in 2013 to carry the torch?  The following featured players were honored as all-district performers last year - but return for more next Fall.

Elgin Wildcats Football ELGIN WILDCATS

QB - Te'Rel Simmons ('14)

ATH - Detrean Simmons ('14)

LB - J.T. Biddy ('14)

DB - Anthony Nash ('14)

WILDCAT QUICK NOTES: Bringing back the core of a State quarterfinalist will undoubtedly keep expectations high for Elgin fans.  The emergence of both the Nash (Anthony remains) and Snell Brothers (Colin, Kyle), combined with the continued maturity of the Simmons Brothers - we could see the Wildcats challenge for a State berth.

Manor Mustangs Football MANOR MUSTANGS

RB - Tyrone Ownens ('14)

OL - Brandon Donnermeyer ('14)

OL - Chad Smith ('14)

DL - Marcus Hudson ('14)

DL - Jimmy Deleon ('14)

LB - Jonathan Johnson ('14)

LB - Curtis Williams ('14)

MUSTANG QUICK NOTES: WAMM feels last season was just the beginning.  Returning a host of tenacious defenders (especially in the front 7), plus arguably the district's best halfback (Owens) - Manor has the pieces in place to make another run.

OL - Tyler Preston ('14)

OL - Calvin Anderson ('14)

RB - Tyler Moody ('14)

RB - Donald Walton ('14)

LB - Jace LaCaille ('14)

EAGLE QUICK NOTES: Yes, the Eagles lose a slew of talented seniors.  But with all-state Preston returning (along with underrated Anderson/Vicars), it could be the running game that gets the Eagles back to dominance.  Moody/Walton form the district's best one-two combo - while the district defensive MVP (LaCaille) returns to anchor the other side.

Eastside Memorial Panthers EAST VIEW PATRIOTS

OL - David Moss ('14)

ATH - Chandler Crawford ('14)

DB - Adrian Contreras ('14)

P - Zach Zavala ('14)

PATRIOT QUICK NOTES: Returning every member of last year's Varsity team will pay divideneds.  The chimistry will remain strong, as nearly the entire football team is playing on the same baseball team this Spring.  Its not far fetched to think that EV could challenge the Eagles as the best team in Georgetown next Fall.

DL - Rolando Ruiz ('14)

WR - Darryl Harrision ('14)

TE - Hayden Doggett ('14)

LB - Ryan Robison ('14)

LB - Brooks Baack ('14)

HIPPO QUICK NOTES: Anything less than a postseason berth in 2013 will be considered a let down for Hutto.  Even though they loss Felderhoff, the Hippos defense shines the brightest.  The front seven will be one of the district's best - while Doggett/Harrison attempt to bond quickly with Spence/Douglas to make the offense potent.

Connally Cougars Football CONNALLY COUGARS

TE - Andrew Hill ('14)

DL/OL - Gabriel Hernandez ('15)

DL - Jamir Bowser ('14)

DB - Cole Sneed ('14)

COUGAR QUICK NOTES: Much like Georgetown, the Cougars will have to fill the shoes of a huge senior class.  Hill returns as a top flight TE - and will need to be a safety blanket for incumbent QB Landon Nobles.  Hernandez proved to be Coach McMahan's most pleasant surprise in '12, and will improve as time passes.  Notice that Gabriel is the only sophomore on this entire list.  Bowser/Sneed will need to combine with Chris Luca to ensure the defense maintains its excellence from last Fall.

Eastside Memorial Panthers CEDAR CREEK EAGLES

TE - Devin Tuggle ('14)

EAGLE QUICK NOTES: Our new Bastrop friends learned some tough lessons last season.  But don't think the Eagles can't compete.  Devin Tuggle is a big target, who is adding bulk this offseason.  If QB Jose Vazquez is able to sharpen his deep route passes, double digit TDs in not out the question for Tuggle.  Its possible we may see Connor Hamilton more on offense in '13, but Tuggle returns as the face of Cedar Creek.

Bastrop Bears Football BASTROP BEARS

No all-district selections from '12 return in 2013

BEARS QUICK NOTE: We feel that Bastrop is one of the area's sneakiest teams, because the 'notable' players are graduating.  This gives us an opportunity to put some talented Bears on your radar.  The RB tandem of Mason Homesley/Iziayah Washington will be names to know over the next two seasons.  DB Romello Wilson will be playing with chip on his shoulders after being left off the all-district list.  Throw in the versatile Logan Allen (who could play both WR and QB at times next year), and Bastrop will be tough to handle.

Adrian Contreras was also a Sophomore and will be a junior this year. You guys keep listing him as class of 2014 when he is class of 2015.
