At the 2000 Miss Florida Scholarship Pageant - a preliminary to the Miss America Pageant - the audience gasped at her on stage question when the Judge asked “How would you streamline America’s Tax System?” It’s a tough question for anyone, including Comfort Chevannes who at the time had recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Florida International University and was a new staff Auditor at Deloitte Miami. Comfort never forgot the question and since then has spent several years helping Americans streamline their own taxes. With 7 ½ years in Banking, and over 16 years in the Accounting and Tax world, Comfort has worked extensively teaching, developing programs, and working with small business owners and individuals helping them with their taxes and businesses. In addition to having a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Comfort has a Master’s Degree in Taxation from Nova Southeastern University and is currently in pursuit of a Doctorate Degree in Taxation with a focus on constituting a fair tax system for developing Nations at the Washington Institute for Graduate Studies.
Presently, Comfort spends her time as a Tax Consultant for Small Business Owners and Self-Employed Professionals, and in 2010 added Professor to her title after joining the University of Phoenix on Campus School of Business Faculty. She has Lectured at Texas A&M San Antonio, Designed Tax Courses for the San Antonio Board of Realtors, been a speaker at several functions, including the PricewaterhouseCoopers Women’s Working Circle, The Star Tech Expo, The Alamo City Chamber, and currently lectures at Concordia University in Austin, Texas. Her public accounting work experience includes KPMG, Deloitte, and Rachlin, where she concentrated on Estate & Gift Tax, Partnerships, Family Owned Businesses, and Corporate companies. She has volunteered for and coordinated the IRS’s VITA program, served as Director of Tax and Business for NABA Miami, helped to coordinate and moderated for the Women of ALPFA, and in College Comfort served in Student Government as the Vice Chair of the Finance Committee.
Comfort has a real passion for instilling in small business owners fundamental practices for growth. She wants to see more small businesses succeed. Her personal experience along with experience working with several small business owners has made her to realize how unaware most small business owners are about what it truly takes to be successful in business. She believes that knowledge is the most important element for success, and if business owners knew what it took to be successful they would do it and our economy would be stronger. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Talk Radio as she tackles relevant issues essential to having a successful business. Her show focuses on providing small business owners with information, insights, and ideas that will promote growth and profit. The show also serves as a platform for small business owners to showcase their business and best practices. Fast forward years later after that hard-hitting unexpected question at the Miss Florida Scholarship Pageant, Comfort can indeed tell you how she would begin the process to streamline America’s Tax System. However, for right now she’s getting to the heart of issues that cause both failure and success, discussing thought provoking topics, and helping Small Business owners find their way to real success in business.
