2013 Returning All-District (25-4A)

A new year rings in new hope.  We'll be releasing installments of this feature throughout the month of January.  In the state's toughest 4A district, replacing lost seniors is quite a task.  As we prepare for Spring camp, we take an early glance at the returning 25-4A all-district perfomers in 2013.  This is a select group, because many other juniors/sophomores had outstanding years.  These were the ones honored by the head coaches.

QB - Nate Grimm ('14)

LB - Thomas Hutchings ('15)

WR - Samuel Brock ('14)

OL - Davis Geerts ('14)

RB - Chris Hutchings ('15)

TE - Chad Whitehead ('14)

DL - Ben Harral ('14)

LB - Peter Maneikis ('14)

DB - Sean Angle ('14)

TE - Colt Owen ('14)

OL - Austin Bryant ('14)

CPFB QUICKIE: The Hutchings' Twins contributions at such an early stage will pay off big over the next two seasons.  Having both TE's, plus Bryant and Geerts back up front, means Cedar Park will be able to control the line of scrimmage again.  With a full year under his belt (and his favorite target Brock returning), Nate Grimm will easily top his production from what was a district-MVP season.  The pressure to repeat will be great, but its a task this group can certainly accomplish.

K - Matthew Wiley ('14)

TE - Eli Shelton ('14)

TIGER NOTES: Coach Bob Schlutz was forced to play a slew of youngsters last year, due to injury.  The majority of next year's starters were getting their Varsity feet wet - thus not many returning all-district selections.  However, Eli Shelton could be in for a monster year.  He'll be a key red zone threat, and relied on to make space for Falcon/Battle in '13.  Matthew Wylie was one of the area's best kickers as a sophomore, and returns for a special senior season.

RB - Darian McClatcher ('15)

DL - Michael Epley ('14)

LB - Martin Nwakamma ('14)

LB - Greg Kelley ('14)

DB - Zach Noska ('14)

LION QUICKIE: After last year's heartbreaking, hail mary loss - Leander will be back with a vengence.  Fan favorite Hopp will finally get full time snaps.  McClatcher enters '13 as an offensive MVP candidate.  With four top flight defensive players back, expect another year of tenacious play from Coach Salazar's side of the ball.

Marble Falls Mustangs Football MARBLE FALLS MUSTANGS

WR - Garrett Gray ('14)

RB - Keith Jerome ('14)

MUSTANG QUICKIE: Marble will look to maintain their hot non-district start into 25-4A play next season.  Gray may easily be the area's top receiver in 2013.  But if you ask most opponents, the scariest weapon for the Mustangs is Keith Jerome.  Formerly from the Louisiana area, the returning back has a full grasp of what Coach Todd Dodge needs from him.

Rouse Raiders Football ROUSE RAIDERS

ATH Billy Ray McCrary ('15)

RAIDER QUICKIE: Don't be fooled by this short list.  Rouse had a ton of senior leadership, but there's talent waiting in the wings.  Not listed above is offensive lineman Will Noble.  The CPL Statesman and LISD AD Chris Ross both agree: Noble is destined.  But Billy McCrary is the only returning Raider of the coach's official all-district list.  We could see a position change for BM III in 2013.

Vandegrift Vipers Football VANDEGRIFT VIPERS

DB - Tristan Prukop ('14)

DL - Gunner Linhart ('14)

VIPER QUICKIE: Prukop Family greatness continues with Vandegrift Football, as we expect a D-MVP caliber type season from Tristan in 2013.  Nearly notching 100 tackles in his first full Varsity season, he serves as Vandy's last line of defense.  Things will start up front with the tenacious Linhart.  His intangibles and passion make him a handful for the best OL's in Texas.

RB - Stedman Mayberry ('14)

TE - Blake Gossett ('14)

DL - Micah Thomas ('14)

LB - Eddie Brock ('14)

DB - DaQuan Patton ('15)

DB - Kevin Harris ('15)

DB - Alex Quintero ('15)

RANGERS QUICKIE: If you look at what Vista brings back on the defensive side of the ball - there is no question they can compete to win 25-4A outright.  This is a hard-hitting group of talent, that will force offenses to get creative.  Some say a true #1 RB is half of what you need to win a state title.  Mayberry fits that description perfectly.
