The Small Business Development Program (SBDP) is in the City of Austin's Economic Growth and Redevelopment Services Office. The SBDP is located at One Texas Center, 505 Barton Springs Road. The SBDP assists any new or existing small business in getting started or expanding, regardless of gender or race. We distribute FREE "Business Information Packets” to help new businesses get started and other CD’s and hard copy documents as resource directories that help the entrepreneur find resources for their business. We have a FREE BizAid program which includes new business start up orientations, free technical assistance in writing business and marketing plans, free assistance with loan applications and credit reviews and many small business classes. 974-7800
The SBDP houses the Business Solutions Center located on the first floor. The Center has as subsets the Electronic Plan Room, the Business Information Center and the Small Business PC Lab. Access to the Business Solutions Center is FREE. The Electronic Plan Room has six workstations at which (primarily) construction companies can research open bids for public or private construction projects statewide and in the hurricane affected areas of Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi. The customer can print specifications or plans through the Electronic Plan Room and thereby increase their business. The Business Information Center has six workstations at which the customer can access multiple software applications and web subscriptions to help expand their business, including epipeline - a website to research procurement opportunities with the federal, state, county and local municipal governments, Selectory – software to research decision makers in purchasing throughout Texas and Demographics Now! to research demographics in a given area - again, helping the small business owner to find opportunities to contract their goods or services. The Business Information Center also has business plan software, desktop publishing software, general office software and high speed Internet access. The Center has a collection of books, periodicals and newspapers of interest to the entrepreneur. Finally, the Small Business PC Lab is used to teach industry specific or small business QuickBooks classes, or can be leased to small business owners to train others. 974-7786
