About Laurie
With a background in human resources, hospitality, and business development, Laurie Purkis is not your typical radio personality.
Having derived expertise from a myriad of outlets in both academia and the business world, Laurie is a strong proponent of discussing issues directly with the source to identify and quickly resolve problems. Academically, Laurie holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Tarleton State University and has worked as an adjunct professor in two Florida State University System schools, the University of West Florida and Pensacola Junior College. Business-wise, she has had a successful career in hospitality and human resources… from her founding The Banquet Room, an event venue in Killeen, TX, to serving as Vice President of Training and Development of K-Bob’s Restaurant Group and Senior Training and Development Specialist for Cracker Barrel.
With all of her business experience, however, Laurie is no stranger to the radio industry; she co-hosted the Don Crawford Show on Austin’s KLGO, The Word, Christian Radio 99.3 and 98.5 FM.. Nor is she a stranger to politics. Before beginning her career with Talk 1370, Laurie served as campaign director for Dr. Donna Campbell, the current Republican challenger to long-time Democrat incumbent Lloyd Doggett for U.S. Representative of Texas’s 25th Congressional District. Laurie has also been a key activist in organizing several Tea Party events.
Now, with all of her successes in human resources, hospitality and business development behind her, Laurie is looking forward to imparting her knowledge on how to “make things happen” to the 1370 listeners!
Laurie currently resides in Austin and enjoys hiking, travel and hanging out with Jack, in her free time.
About Bob
Bob Ward began his working life as an actor/director but through a variety of circumstances –including Broadway’s indifference – he found a home in daily newspapers.
He has covered the Legislature in Vermont for the Burlington Free Press and for five years was an editorial writer and weekly columnist on the Indianapolis News, a leading conservative voice in the Midwest.
He has also been published in Human Events and National Review.
He eventually made the transition from journalism to politics as media director for the Republican Party of Texas. Since then he has done free-lance writing and photography for candidates and a 10-year stint on talk radio.
He brings all this to Talk 1370 and is looking forward to working with Laurie and her listeners.
